Definition
Coordinate system fixed relative to Earth's surface, with axes rotating with Earth's rotation. In libration point orbit prediction, the probe's position must be transformed from the geocentric celestial coordinate system to this frame when computing Earth's non-spherical gravity potential (such as the J₂ term). WGS84 is a commonly used Earth-fixed coordinate system.
Application Value
This concept plays a key role in trajectory transfer design, helping evaluate transfer costs and flight time to provide quantitative basis for mission trade studies. Combined with global search algorithms, multiple solution families and Pareto frontiers can be identified to guide orbital design decisions.
