Definition
A gravity assist technique in which a spacecraft approaches the Moon in the retrograde direction (opposite to the Moon's orbital motion) and applies an impulse at perilune. Retrograde flybys provide larger turning angles, more effectively changing the orbital plane and energy, and are commonly used for DRO rendezvous missions. This technique can significantly reduce the total ΔV required to reach a distant retrograde orbit.
