Definition
The total velocity increment required to complete an orbital transfer, equal to the sum of departure and insertion impulses. Transfer cost is the primary metric for selecting parking orbits of cislunar space stations and directly determines propellant requirements. For the same starting DRO, the cost difference between direct and low-energy transfers can exceed 400 m/s.
