Definition
The angle between the impulse thrust direction and the perpendicular to the radial vector. In Lawden's optimal transfer theory, this angle together with impulse magnitude determines the post-maneuver orbital parameters. Optimal transfers require impulses at apses perpendicular to the radius (zero direction angle) to maximize thrust contribution to velocity.
