Definition
A formation flying mode with inter-spacecraft distances at or below the 100-meter scale. It demands extremely high control precision, as minor errors can cause configuration loss or collision. Traditional ion and chemical propulsion are unsuitable due to plume contamination; Coulomb force formation is currently the most promising technical approach. Among existing libration point formation studies, large-scale formations (kilometers to thousands of kilometers) are more common, while ultra-close formation research is relatively scarce.

This propulsion technology is important for deep space missions, serving as a key means for efficient orbital transfers.
