Definition
Each invariant manifold (stable or unstable) splits into a positive and a negative branch, corresponding to two distinct asymptotic directions in phase space. Both branches of a stable manifold approach the target orbit but occupy different regions of phase space, resulting in different accessible regions when used for transfers from the Moon or Earth.
Application Value
This concept plays an important role in cislunar space trajectory design and transfer planning, enabling analysis of orbital characteristics and design of low-energy transfer schemes.
