Definition

One of the periodic orbit families discovered by Hénon through numerical exploration of the restricted three-body problem. The f-family orbits are characterized by the spacecraft orbiting both primaries in the retrograde direction; distant retrograde orbits belong to this family.

Application Value

In orbit design and transfer missions, this orbit type can be used to optimize fuel consumption and flight time. In practical missions, appropriate analysis methods must be selected based on specific application scenarios and constraint conditions.
