In multi-pulse DRO round-trip transfers, the optimal velocity pulse maneuver in the lunar vicinity is not necessarily at the exact perilune (true anomaly 0°), but can occur within a range around it. Statistics from 217 round-trip trajectories in this paper show that only about 23% have optimal maneuver true anomaly within ±10°, while over 70% deviate more than 10° from perilune. This finding expands the design freedom for lunar vicinity maneuvers.

This concept is applicable in cislunar space mission design, orbit optimization, and trajectory planning for spacecraft transfers and maneuver strategies.
