Definition
The insertion strategy in which the spacecraft performs its final maneuver directly onto the target Halo orbit at a specified position and time. Compared with stable manifold insertion, HOI targets a curve rather than a surface, yielding a smaller parameter space and better optimization convergence. In the Genesis mission, this required a single impulsive maneuver at the Halo orbit point.
Application Value
This term has significant practical applications in cislunar mission planning and execution.
