Definition
A close approach to the Moon where the spacecraft passes through the lunar gravity field without being captured. By controlling the perilune altitude and approach geometry, the trajectory's energy and direction can be significantly altered. High-altitude flybys require less energy but produce smaller changes; low-altitude flybys produce larger changes but require precise control.
