Definition
A technique that converts hard-to-satisfy strict constraints into weaker forms in an optimization problem. In low-energy transfer design, the original method requires exact intersection between the disturbed manifold's Poincare section and the target orbit's section in four-dimensional space, which is an over-constraint that hinders optimization. By introducing Lambert arc connections, the exact intersection constraint is relaxed to selecting the nearest points on the sections and connecting them via Lambert arcs, converting strict constraints into Delta-v terms in the objective function.
