Modal Analysis
Definition
Modal Analysis is an analytical method in structural dynamics used to determine the natural frequencies, mode shapes, and damping characteristics of structures. By solving the eigenvalue problem of a structure, modal parameters at each order are extracted, providing fundamental data for spacecraft structural design, vibration control, and load analysis. During spacecraft launch, on-orbit operations, and docking phases, modal analysis is critical for avoiding resonance and ensuring structural integrity.
