Acquisition Background

Mynaric is a company specializing in laser communication technology, with products including laser communication terminals for high-speed data transmission between satellites and between satellites and ground stations. As satellite constellations continue to scale up, demand for laser communications is growing, as laser communications offer higher bandwidth and lower latency compared to traditional RF communications.

Rocket Lab has been providing customers with satellite manufacturing and launch services through its satellite platform business. After acquiring Mynaric, Rocket Lab will be able to provide customers with complete solutions from satellite platforms to communication terminals.

Rocket Lab Space Systems Business Expansion

Rocket Lab has been actively expanding its space systems business in recent years, forming a diversified product line including rocket launch, satellite platforms, payload separation systems, and laser communication terminals. Earlier in April 2026, Rocket Lab also secured a $19 million HASTE hypersonic suborbital launch contract with the US Department of Defense, further strengthening its market position in the defense and research launch sectors.
