Qianfan Operator Shanghai Spacesail Raises New Funding Round as Constellation Reaches ~200 Satellites in Orbit

Summary: On June 22, 2026, Shanghai Spacesail Technology, operator of the Qianfan mega-constellation, launched a new funding round as its in-orbit fleet reached approximately 200 satellites.

On June 22, 2026, Shanghai Spacesail Technology Co., Ltd. (brand name Spacesail / Qianfan), the builder and operator of China's Qianfan mega-constellation, launched a new funding round, according to Readhub. The Qianfan constellation is one of China's largest commercial low-Earth-orbit communication networks, targeting approximately 15,000 satellites by 2030 to provide global broadband internet coverage.

Since the first batch launch in August 2024, the constellation has grown rapidly. The fleet reached 108 satellites in orbit by February 2025, and following the latest Long March 6 launch in June 2026, the total surpassed 182—overtaking the state-backed GuoWang constellation's 168 for the first time. As of this reporting, the in-orbit count has further climbed to approximately 200 satellites.

Shanghai Spacesail was initially seeded with 6.7 billion yuan (approximately $943 million) from the Shanghai Municipal Government. The financial details and valuation of the new funding round have not been publicly disclosed. On the commercial front, the Qianfan constellation has received regulatory approval in Brazil and is expected to begin offering satellite communication services there within 2026.
