NASA has unveiled the Orion Crew Survival System suits that the four Artemis II astronauts will wear during their upcoming test flight around the Moon — the first crewed lunar mission since the Apollo era.
Key Points
- The suits are designed by NASA's EVA team specifically for use inside the Orion spacecraft
- Crew members: Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch (NASA), and CSA Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen
- Artemis II is targeted for launch on April 1 from Kennedy Space Center
Details
The suits were photographed in the suit-up room of the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Each suit features the NASA insignia and an American flag patch on the left shoulder (Canadian flag for Jeremy Hansen).
Artemis II will be NASA's first mission with crew aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft. The four astronauts will embark on an approximately 10-day journey around the Moon, testing Orion's life support systems with people for the first time and laying the groundwork for future crewed Artemis missions.
